Capital Region BOCES offers High School Equivalency Classes as well as English as a Second Language classes. Classes are offered at multiple sites throughout the Capital Region. Each class is tailored to meet each individual student’s needs.

“Providing the education you need to reach the goals you desire!”:  Adult High School Equivalency/Literacy Classes, Adult High School Equivalency, National Work Readiness Credential.

This program is commonly referred to as the Adult High School Equivalency Program and is designed to improve the educational and employment opportunities of adults in the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES catchment area. A variety of adult programming is offered throughout the area including Malone, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and the Akwesasne Mohawk Reserve. Program options consist of morning, afternoon or evening sessions. In addition, opportunities to participate in distance learning (home study) are available for those students who are unable to attend traditional programming.

Fulton–Montgomery BOCES offers adult learners a no-cost pathway to strengthen literacy, academic, and workforce skills in support of employment and education goals. Services include GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), short-term Teacher Aide training for bilingual and bicultural participants, digital literacy instruction, and case management support. Programs are offered through community-based sites, including the Amsterdam and Gloversville Literacy Zones, with additional services provided in local correctional facilities to support successful reentry.

The Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Literacy/GED Program offers adult learners more than GED® preparation—it provides a pathway to greater educational and career opportunities. Through personalized learning plans, hands-on instructional support, and workforce readiness training, participants strengthen essential literacy skills while working toward a high school equivalency diploma. Classes are available in Watertown and Glenfield.

Literacy New York Fulton Montgomery and Schoharie Counties provides free, confidential literacy services—including reading, writing, math, ELL tutoring, and GED preparation—through trained staff and volunteers. Instruction is flexible, with tutors and learners meeting at convenient public locations across a service area spanning over 1,000 square miles.

Literacy Volunteers Capital Region provides free English, math, financial, and computer literacy instruction to about 250 adult learners each year through trained volunteer tutors offering one-to-one and small group support. Funded by grants and community donations, the organization focuses on serving adults with low literacy, including English language learners. Their goal is to ensure access to high-quality, well-organized literacy and language instruction for all who need it.

Questar III BOCES offers Adult Education and Workforce Development programs designed to build on learners’ skills, talents, and potential while connecting them to meaningful employment. Programs include Adult Basic Education (ABE)/Adult Literacy, High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation and testing, English as a New Language (ENL), Workforce Development, and Community Education. These services combine academic instruction with career-focused training aligned to employer needs. Students receive individualized support, including assessment and job placement assistance, to support long-term career success.

Mission: To support refugees and immigrants to build new lives and thrive in the Capital Region. We do this through language classes, immigration and employment assistance, youth programming, and case management.

St. Lawrence–Lewis BOCES Adult Education offers Foundations for Success, a five-week introductory course that helps adults begin their GED journey with confidence. The program includes pre- and post-assessments, completion of intake paperwork, and guided instruction across all four GED subject areas, with a strong focus on Math and Reasoning Through Language Arts. Students receive individualized support, digital learning opportunities, and access to case management as they build academic skills and explore their next steps. After completing Foundations, learners may continue with flexible drop-in classes, transition to distance learning (21+), or move directly to the GED exam, creating multiple pathways toward achieving their educational goals.

The Schenectady Adult and Continuing Education Center is located in the heart of the City of Schenectady at 80 Nott Terrace. The Center supports adult learners in building college and career readiness to participate fully in education, employment, and civic opportunities. Programs include GED, ESL, Construction Trades, and Paraprofessional training, offered Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Center also provides case management and wraparound services to help students overcome barriers. Classes operate year-round with open enrollment.

Tri-County Literacy Center is dedicated to improving lives by fostering literacy skills through practical, learner-centered education. The program serves adults in Warren, Washington, and Saratoga counties, providing the resources and support needed to achieve literacy goals while building pathways toward independence and economic mobility.

The WSWHE BOCES High School Equivalency (HSE) Program offers adults a supportive pathway to earn a New York State HSE diploma and prepare for college, career training, or employment. Students receive individualized instruction in core subject areas, including Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reasoning Through Language Arts, with flexible scheduling designed to meet the needs of adult learners. Programs are offered in Hudson Falls and Saratoga, with daytime and evening sessions that vary by location.
